On the unveiling of a Commemorative Plaque in Memory of the Participants and Victims of the Great Patriotic War at the Embassy

On June 22, 2026, the Day of Nationwide Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, marking the 85th anniversary of the beginnig of the Great Patriotic War, a commemorative event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Zimbabwe.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Harare, representatives of Zimbabwean government agencies and public associations, diplomats, defense attachés, as well as local and Russian media.
The participants observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War.
A commemorative plaque dedicated to the heroism of the participants and the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War was solemnly unveiled at the Embassy.
It's installment represented a joint contribution by Belarusian diplomats, military diplomats, and Belarusian businesses to preserve historical memory and raise awareness of the heroism of our people during the Great Patriotic War.

 

 


Addressing the audience, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus, Yury Nikalaichyk, noted that, unfortunately, many lessons of the Great Patriotic War have been faded, and many propose to cure current security crisis with new weapon supplies, sanctions, and the dictate of one side over others.
The Head of the Diplomatic Mission called for the condemnation of the terrorist attack on a bus carrying Belarusian children, which occurred on June 17, 2026.
The Belarusian diplomat also urged all countries of goodwill to exert joint international pressure on the warmongers to prevent further escalation in Europe.
Y. Nikalaichyk emphasized that Belarus chooses the path of peace, dialogue and responsibility.
Colonel Sergei Syomin, Defense Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus, and H.E. Sergei Berdnikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Zimbabwe, addressed the participants of the memorial event.
A memorial prayer for the victims of the Great Patriotic War was read by Father Emilian Shumba, a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church in Zimbabwe.
The attendees also had the opportunity to view the materials of the photo exhibition “Woman. War. Victory.”
