H.E. Dr. Prof. Amon Murwira, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, addressed the meeting with a welcoming speech.
The general tone of the discussion showed adherence to the goals and objectives of the group, the preservation of the UN Charter, countering abuses of international law, the need to urgently lift illegal unilateral coercive measures in any form, the rejection of the use of force and the threat of force, and the politicization of human rights issues.
Speaking in his national capacity, the head of the Belarusian delegation stressed the importance of a multilateral approach to discussing and solving the most pressing problems of the world on the basis of international law and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. Noted that the Group of Friends could make a real contribution to this process. Called for a performance-oriented approach that would launch a multipolar inclusive negotiation process on global or regional issues. He stated the need for reforms that would allow the UN to once again become a significant player on the world stage. He confirmed Belarus' fundamental assessments of the situation around Iran, Venezuela and Cuba.
The members of the Group spoke in favor of a results-based approach to work, which would protect the UN Charter while preserving opportunities for broad dialogue.
